10 Stunning AI Art Styles to Inspire Your Midjourney Prompts

I’ve got 10 more AI art and Midjourney styles for you to try today. Add these to the end of your prompt, separated by a comma, to get images like what you see here, except for the first style, which goes at the start of your prompt.

I highly recommend experimenting with subjects, but also with more metaphysical things like emotions and concepts, to see what you get.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: How to Use These Phrases

  • Add the style phrase to the end of your prompt, separated by a comma.
  • For “the opposite of,” add it to the start of your prompt.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: The opposite of

Add this to the start of your prompt and get unique and stylized images. I feel like this style still includes the subject inside your images, but by having “the opposite of” it kind of confuses the algorithm a little bit, and it sometimes puts items across from each other or tries to make the subject a bit opposite to what they look.

  • Example: Batman, instead of being dark and brooding, is very colorful.
  • I tried “the opposite of free” and “the opposite of happy” and got some really strange results and interesting interpretations.
  • “The opposite of sad” was a little bit different.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: Inspired by Yoshimitsu Mitsu

I’ve been using this as a subject because of the character from Tekken, but when I changed it into more of a style format, it added a really cool samurai style to all of the characters I put into it. It dressed them up in armor.

You can see how everyone gets a different style of dress, more of a Japanese style of artwork, and it blends pretty well. I love the one with Darth Vader and the katana lightsaber. Adding this to your subjects really transforms them into more of a Japanese, more samurai themed image.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: Multi-exposure photograph in front of Mount Fuji

Multi-exposure photograph is kind of like a take on the double exposure photograph, but it gives a slightly different result. I love the way we’ve got the bats with Batman. The Incredible Hulk has a bunch of city and little trees growing on him.

It finds a way to overlap certain elements, often more than once. Sometimes it even creates little square sections of the element. Most of the time you get a nice overlap of different subject matter in your photo, but in a slightly different way than double exposure. I thought it was definitely worth a share, and again, we get that square effect with Goku.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: Digitalized Da Vinci style

This takes something like a Da Vinci style and occasionally adds a different touch to it. It’s not a super clean Da Vinci style. It’s more highly detailed, with lots of patterns and things woven into the image.

Batman’s mask and armor have lots of little patterns involved in the creation of his costume. Using digitalized just seemed to change things a little bit. The modern family home almost looks like a 3D render, but with the color scheme of aged Da Vinci work, and the Terminator looking bronze was a pretty nice touch.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: Black and red ukiyo-e comic style

You can prompt for this and get a pretty decent result. You can add any of these styles to your mood boards too. The way we get that really cool black and red style, the outline style, makes it more of a comic book style drawing with black outlines instead of a painted or woodblock printed ukiyo-e image.

It transforms the subject matter. Darth Vader has a torn up cape and Japanese samurai armor. The Hulk is wearing almost a karate type outfit, but he’s got a samurai sword. This was probably the closest to an actual ukiyo block print, and I love the way it dialed down the colors.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: Morphus style

I saw this pop up on the Midjourney Explore page and tried it out. It tends to make the images look a little bit 3D. It almost looks a little bit like Unreal Engine, but not quite the same, with a more stylized take on the subjects.

It’s not every time, but most of the time you’ll get at least one image where something looks different. Batman looks quite different. Darth Vader is wearing a suit. It’s one of those really strange words that manages to have an impact. When I tried to do a bit of research about Morphus, all that came up was some equipment, and maybe it’s been corrected to something else like Morpheus, but overall I was pretty happy with the results.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: Hannya glitch effect

Hannya is a Japanese theater mask, and paired with glitch effect, it adds that digitalized effect. It really spruced up the images. It added the Japanese style to the images, and the glitch effect came on pretty strong.

The Terminator looks nothing like the Terminator, but the rest of the images definitely have that feel where there’s a slight Japanese twist. The way it changes the character with the glitch is very strong and creates a really cool stylized image.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: Collage illustration aesthetic

This takes collage illustration, and adding those extra words helps create something a little bit more unique. With the modern family home, it has bits and pieces of the home with the steps in front. The Terminator has elements up the side of his head. Batman looks great with collage effects around him.

It does a great job of creating collage effects around a subject and then often interacting with the subject, like with Darth Vader. This is a fun style to play with, creates unique results, and looks like something you could use quite well in a graphic design service if you need elements that make up this look and maybe you can replace a subject. I also love how it shows neutral colors along with the yellow with Pikachu.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: Screenshot of busy Windows 98 desktop

I didn’t get what I wanted, but I definitely got something interesting. It has that old 80s style video game vibe and usually has some kind of computer in there.

It dates the images with that 90s style computer look and pixelation, and it feels like something from an old video game. It often adds someone sitting at a computer. Goku is sitting at a computer with a can of Coke. The Terminator is on a computer with some weaponry around him.

Midjourney Prompt Styles: Minimalist grid graphics

This is a cool way of adding grids to your images. Sometimes you get a 3D mesh style or a pointed mesh style, like with Darth Vader. Sometimes you just get a nice grid effect added to your images.

I found this was better than simply adding “grid,” which just overlays a grid. This has a more interactive feel. The way it interprets the grid can change from image to image, so there’s a little bit of freedom in how it interprets that. It has a nice touch and a little bit of flexibility within the range of that style.

Final Thoughts

  • Add most styles to the end of your prompt, separated by a comma.
  • Use “the opposite of” at the start of your prompt for creative, often surprising contrasts.
  • Many of these styles add strong thematic twists, especially Japanese and collage aesthetics.
  • Try them with subjects, emotions, and concepts to discover interesting interpretations.
