Viewer-Submitted Midjourney Styles: Artist and Cultural Influences

Elric by P. Craig Russell

I did a little bit of research and tried to get as specific as possible with this style and I think it got at least part of the way there, but I don’t think it’s absolutely nailed it. This phrase has a very interesting impact on all the characters you apply it to.

It tends to transform them and change the theme a little bit, with a rougher style. I love what it did with the car and the way it added that torn cape to Mario is a really nice touch. It also did the same with Batman.

Traditional Basohli Painting (Jammu and Kashmir)

I didn’t quite get the result I wanted with just that phrase. I added a bit more information after doing some research and I think it got pretty close.

The way it transforms characters like Batman is strong. It even changes attire, like making the Terminator’s gun look old fashioned. You can pick up on the style easily and see how it influences your images.

“Dogu” Statue (use quotation marks)

I had a Dogu statue a few weeks ago and got statues of dogs. By adding the quotation marks, it corrected it. Now the statues don’t look like dogs.

75+ Unique Viewer-Submitted Midjourney Prompts & Art Styles screenshot 11

It has a transformative effect on the subject, changes styles and elements, and even Batman kind of looks like a frog. Superman looks completely different, and Mario’s proportions change in a fun way.

Escaping from Salvador Dali’s Subconscious

Add this phrase to get cool surreal style images. I was a bit disappointed I didn’t see melted clocks, but I saw a lot of desert looks and mixed up styles. The Darth Vader result is very trippy.

In the Style of Gorillaz

This brings a nice animation vibe and does a great job applying something similar to the band’s look. It styles up characters with touches like sunglasses. Even the way it drew the car is unique. Darth Vader looks very different.

In the Style of Tank Girl Comics

A unique street style with sunnies, outfits, and a cool look. The Terminator turns into a chick because it says Tank Girl, so it does convert a lot of subjects to women. There is a consistent cartoony vibe. Darth Vader gets a unique transformation.

In the Style of The New Yorker Magazine Covers

Most of the time it prints The New Yorker at the top, not always. It creates a magazine cover look. The Hulk looks like he’s fallen on hard times. The Terminator examples often skip the title but still nail that cover illustration style.

In the Style of a B and W Minimalist New Yorker Sketch Cartoon

A stark black and white, very simple comic style. Sometimes it gets more complex, but most of the time it’s bold linework. It’s a great way to get that drawing style. I love what it did with Darth Vader.

In the Style of Tim Burton

It draws heavily from The Nightmare Before Christmas and really transforms characters. The Hulk looks more like the Grinch. Proportions change, often with big eyes. Even the car picks up the vibe. Darth Vader looks very different and the skulls are a nice touch.

Tim Burton + Salvador Dali

Mixing these gives a blended style. You might see a Dali mustache paired with more Tim Burton proportions, adding a bit of surrealism. Add other artist names for very unique images. Darth Vader reads more surrealist here.

In the Style of a Mad Magazine Cartoon

It didn’t nail the style as much as I expected but added a comical, energetic element. The Terminator turned out pretty good. Sometimes it won’t match a specific idea you have, but it draws on comic panel energy for unique results.

In the Style of Sergio Aragones

Midjourney pulls from his cartoonist style and it looks pretty good. From what I’ve seen, the elements marry up nicely. It’s another great way to transform images into an old fashioned cartoon style. I love what it did with Darth Vader.

Viewer-Submitted Midjourney Styles: Object, Product, and Model Prompts

In Parts of a Plastic Sprue Model Kit Assembly

This turned out pretty good. It adds your subject with sprue parts around them. It will often do a top-down angle like the Hulk, but sometimes a 3D angle like Pikachu. Most images came out top-down, very consistent, and a lot of fun.

As the Main Character in a 3D Cutaway Treasure Hunt

I didn’t get the exact cutaway effect, but the 3D styling is cool. There’s a 3D isometric feel and a tendency to place characters inside things. Worth more experimentation.

Jewellery Prompt Formula

A product photo of a [jewellery type], made using [metal type], a [stone size] sized [stone type], [setting].

  • Example: a photo of a wedding ring, 5 karat size, red gem, prong setting. Reducing the size to 25 gives the same style with a smaller stone.
  • Changing to a bar setting and a diamond works as expected. Small size up to 5 karat produces a bigger diamond.
  • Think about what you want to see and describe it well in your prompt. This is a great way to design jewelry or other objects.

Viewer-Submitted Midjourney Styles: Materials and Fabrication

CNC Project

This tends to make everything into wood, with a very organic grain and a nice 3D effect. Midjourney converts characters into wood statues or carvings impressively. Texture, lighting, and shadows show that the surface isn’t flat. The car sometimes just goes wood color, so it’s not perfect, but you get some cool images.

Raging Molten Steel

A glowing, fiery look. Images are soaked in warm colors. It had a strong impact across subjects. The car sits next to molten metal, which is a nice touch. Darth Vader working on molten metal looks great.

Aggressive Aluminum

This creates highly reflective aluminum characters. The Hulk loses most green. The Terminator’s red eyes often get removed. It’s a strong material cue that drives the whole image, including a bright shiny Darth Vader helmet.

Triumphant Titanium

Similar metallic effect, but everyone is happy and celebrating. Hands up, triumphant energy. The Hulk is the exception, just standing there. Darth Vader has a fist pump.

Berserker Bronze

Creates a bronze statue with a Berserker warrior character element. It looks like a classical figure you’d want on your desk. Darth Vader gets a samurai twist. Very cool.

Quixotic Zink

That word quixotic adds an idealized, offbeat twist. Zinc shifts the look again. It transforms elements of the characters in interesting ways. Darth Vader looks quite different.

Viewer-Submitted Midjourney Styles: Theater, Typography, and Novel Effects

Shadow Theater

Works well with scene prompts.

  • Action scene: Pikachu fights, the Hulk clashes, and silhouettes carry the story.
  • Musical scene: Pikachu singing, the Hulk singing to someone, the Terminator holding a gun under dramatic shadows, and Goku singing to the shadow of himself.
  • Drama scene: a nifty effect with heightened mood. One looks like the death of Darth Vader.

Noodle Noodle

People made out of noodles. Pikachu and the Hulk become noodles. It’s about 50 percent hit rate. Sometimes you just get cartoony versions like the Terminator or a drawn look for Goku and the car. Darth Vader as noodles is pretty funny.

Wordular – grammaticalism

Adds a lot of text to images. Sometimes the art is printed over text, other times the art is made out of text. Good for typography experiments. There is consistency if you reroll, but you can also get some nice surprises.

Interabang

The interrobang is a question mark plus exclamation point. MJ tends to latch onto the question mark. Almost every image includes question marks as a visual motif. Darth Vader looks curious and thoughtful among them.

Transformations and Character Mashups

Bread (no comma)

Removing the comma turns subjects into bread. Pikachu bread is a loaf with ears and a face. Hulk bread looks inedible, glowing eyes and metal bits included. Goku bread looks cool. The car becomes toaster shaped. Darth Vader bread is a neat helmet loaf.

Ballroom Dancing (with [name])

Add two character names and an activity. The Incredible Hulk ballroom dancing with Pikachu is great. It dresses them up and changes costumes. Sometimes it gets confused, but it’s a fun action structure. You can swap in any activity.

Magic Girl (no comma)

Converts characters into magical girls or places them in that setting. The Hulk reads like the She-Hulk we should have got. The Terminator turns into a girl but still looks deadly. Goku gets a little ponytail. The futuristic car gains a character. Darth Vader is stunning.

Taking Control of the Funky Mothership

Heads sometimes become sci-fi steampunk motherships or characters take control of them. The Terminator looks like an agent from Men in Black. Goku pilots a little ship. Someone even turns into a spaceship.

Under the Influence of Yellow Submarine (no comma)

MJ may not fully understand the assignment. The Hulk ends up under a yellow submarine. The Terminator becomes a yellow hippie, likely pulling from the Beatles. Another strong yellow visual style.

1950s Cat Fancy Magazine Cover

Everyone has a cat or looks like a cat in a 1950s illustration style. The Hulk has tea with his cat. The Terminator looks like the deadliest cat you’ve seen. Goku is a cat. Darth Vader is a cat with a Vader nose.

The Barista (no comma)

Transforms characters into baristas. Everyone looks like a professional cafe barista. You can adapt this trick to other roles by naming them, like cabinet maker.

-osaurus Tags (no space, no comma)

Pikachusaurus, Hulkosaurus, Batmanosaurus, Terminatosaurus. It converts characters into Transformer-like mech creatures. Very fun.

Overwhelmed by Cuteness

Lots of kittens and teddy bears with cute proportions. The Terminator looks like a little kid with a tiny animal friend. Goku gets a kitten. Darth Vader appears as a cat surrounded by little critters.

As a 50s Sci-Fi Robot

A cool boxy old fashioned robot style. It lands especially well on serious characters like the Hulk and Darth Vader. The futuristic car also looks old fashioned.

Viewer-Submitted Midjourney Styles: Layouts, Scenes, Emotions, and Motion

Three Panel Story

Recommended for 16-9 or 9-16 aspect ratios. It also works square, but 16-9 is best. About 75 percent of images come out with three panels. It looks like something you could add dialogue to. Occasionally you get four panels or variants. Goku examples tell clear mini stories, like coming down from being Super Saiyan. It’s easy to get this layout. Experiment with different numbers for flexibility.

Mythical Legendary Action Scene

A very cinematic look. There is big energy, striking lighting, sometimes an opposing force in the shot, and strong explosion moments. Darth Vader looks ready for battle. The car gets a dramatic backdrop.

Suffering from Existential Overload (no comma)

Adds a more art driven emotional tone. The Terminator can look stoic. Often there is something above the head, like Goku’s example. Darth Vader with his hands on his face nails the emotion.

Performing Tricks at the Skate Park (no comma)

Everyone is mid trick, often in mid air. Backgrounds are consistent with skate parks. Even the car appears mid air with a board nearby. Darth Vader gets a tiny bit of air.

90s Sitcom

Sometimes you get a clean photographic effect. Often it plays more on characters and setting with down to earth 80s and 90s elements. It does not always land with vehicles. Darth Vader looks like a disappointed sitcom dad on the couch.

Raging Intensity of a Thousand Exploding Suns

Intense, heated images with yellow and orange warmth, explosions, and fire. Goku looks fully powered up. The car feels explosive. Darth Vader is fierce.

Lost in Space and Time

A more peaceful tone with space suits and exploration. It often feels interstellar, with added weird characters. An old car can look like it’s been found on a distant planet years later. Darth Vader sometimes has a strange cloud element, which is a cool touch.

Propaganda Poster

A consistent propaganda poster look. I removed one example with a swastika, but the rest brought strong eastern poster aesthetics with red and cream tones. If you want that look, this does it.

At Ludicrous Speed

You get crazy speed with motion blur. Most images get some kind of motion effect. It’s a good way to inject action. I love that so many subjects ended up on bikes.

Made Out of Fireworks

Subjects made from fireworks and bright sparks. Sometimes fireworks are going off on the subject, like the Hulk. Often at least an element is shaped from fireworks. Great for glowing effects.

California Dreaming

A cool, relaxed California vibe with palm trees and soft colors. It often looks a bit old fashioned. There are sunglasses and plants everywhere. Darth Vader sits down after a long day.

Grooving to the Funky Vibes

People are dancing, often with headphones. It feels like a music video. Darth Vader has sunglasses and headphones. Hopefully he can hear through the helmet.

Old Manuscript Decorative Borders, Illumination

A very consistent old fashioned manuscript look. Borders and frames come through clearly. The Terminator example uses skulls. Sometimes there is very little subject, more pure style. Throwing this in produces classical imagery quickly.

Slapstick Comedy Action Scene

Not as much slapstick as expected, but a comicky vibe with implied disagreements. The Terminator has a puzzling expression. The car is just a car here, but it’s a fun one to test.

In Wonderland (no comma)

Alice elements, bunnies, giant mushrooms, and floral chaos. It adds wonder and energy. Darth Vader with floral touches around his head looks very cool.

Confronts an Unpleasant Reality (no comma)

Subjects face themselves or an adversary, and the mood is heavy. It’s a smart interpretation with good staging. Darth Vader looking at himself is a standout.

Pondering the Imponderable

Contemplative shots. Big eyes for Pikachu, seated thinking poses, and someone contemplating next to the car. Darth Vader even gets a thought bubble.

Stuck in a Paradox

Maze like setups and brain-bending scenes. Pikachu lost in a labyrinth, a boy facing the Hulk, the Terminator just sitting in a car. Darth Vader has a thought provoking setup.

Quixotic Adventure

Idealistic and fantastical, with fairy tale energy. The Terminator looks completely different, sitting in a car. Goku has a big stick and is off on an adventure. It’s a great word to experiment with.

Whimsical Silliness

Colorful, bright, and happy. Using whimsical or silliness helps, and together they work well. It adds a cheerful spin to your images. Darth Vader looks completely different in a fun way.

Viewer-Submitted Midjourney Styles: Emotions, Mundane Prompts, and Daily Life

Experiencing Intense Anxiety (no comma)

Emotion words can really change faces and tone. This set had strong expressions across the board. The car lacks a face, but the color palette and mood still match. Darth Vader gets massive eyes to show his anxiety.

Doing Taxes, Mowing the Lawn, Making Dinner, Doing Mundane Tasks

  • Doing taxes: Pikachu and the Hulk crunch numbers. The car becomes symbolic. Darth Vader has a calculator and coins.
  • Mowing the lawn: Great outfits, like Pikachu’s hat. The Hulk has lawn on him. Most images had ride on mowers. I had to dig to get a push mower. The Terminator has bare legs. Goku struggles with the mower. The car is parked on the lawn. Darth Vader looks peaceful.
  • Making dinner: In the kitchen, Pikachu stirs a pot. The Hulk is calm and focused. The Terminator looks like Arnie cooking dinner. Goku does a nice job. The car has dinner inside it. Darth Vader cooks something for Padme before realizing she is no longer around.
  • Doing mundane tasks: Pikachu cycles through a few chores. The Hulk looks confused and overrun. The Terminator sits watching a game in the late 70s. Goku’s scene looks like someone died next to him, which isn’t mundane. The car is just a car. Darth Vader relaxes with a soft drink.

Viewer-Submitted Midjourney Styles: Speed, Fire, Action, and Energy

Hyperactive Scene, Emotional Scene, Mundane Scene, Shock and Awe Scene, Relaxing Scene, Tranquil Scene, Extreme Action Scene

  • Hyperactive scene: Lots of energy and explosiveness. Usually consistent. If it misses, reroll.
  • Emotional scene: Negative mood comes through in tone and expressions. Darth Vader’s face tells a story.
  • Mundane scene: Ordinary settings with nothing much happening. Great for down to earth compositions.
  • Shock and awe scene: Big reactions, anger, and panel-like compositions.
  • Relaxing scene: Beach days and nature. Hulk with a beer. The Terminator getting air on his shins. Someone relaxing in the car. Darth Vader relaxing after a day on the Death Star.
  • Tranquil scene: Stillness, flat water, mist, and a huge moon. Beautiful nature wrapped around intense characters. Darth Vader is force fishing.
  • Extreme action scene: Explosive movement. Hulk about to punch you. The Terminator about to fire. Goku kicking up dust. The car races down a futuristic street. Darth Vader is busy with action.

Final Thoughts

  • Small phrase tweaks have big, predictable effects, from materials like bronze, aluminum, and titanium to scene modifiers like tranquil, shock and awe, and extreme action.
  • Emotions and daily life prompts are powerful. Anxiety, confronting reality, or even doing taxes can transform characters convincingly.
  • Layout and typography tricks like three panel story, propaganda poster, and wordular give you strong composition control.
  • Transformations like bread, magic girl, -osaurus tags, barista, and cat fancy covers are playful and often hilarious.
  • Artist and culture references are great starting points. Some require extra specificity, but even partial hits bring strong, recognizable vibes.

Have a play with the ones that catch your eye and reroll as needed.
